Medical insurance is highly recommended for international travel.


Note: Air Transat insurance is only available to Canadian citizens aged between 20 and 59 years* old.

If you do not meet these criteria, we strongly recommend contacting your insurer for a quote based on your needs.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

AIRLINE TICKET

Your electronic ticket for your flights from Montreal (YUL), Toronto (YYZ) or Halifax (YHZ) will be sent to you by email. 

 

BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE

Your electronic ticket will provide information on baggage allowance and restrictions for both checked and carry-on luggage.

 

CARRY-ON LUGGAGE

Liquids (perfumes, creams, aerosols, etc.) must be in containers with a maximum capacity of 100 ml (3.4 oz). These containers must then be placed in a transparent, resealable plastic bag (available at the airport if needed) with a maximum capacity of one (1) liter.

 

LUGGAGE TAGS

To ensure proper identification of your luggage, be sure to label all of your suitcases and bags.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

PASSPORT

Canadians must present a passport valid for at least six months following the date of their arrival in the Dominican Republic and containing one blank page.

For all other nationalities, we recommend checking the immigration website of the concerned country for entry requirements or access to the Air Transat Practical Guide.

MANDATORY DOMINICAN ELECTRONIC TICKET

(ENTRY/EXIT ELECTRONIC FORM)

All visitors entering or leaving the Dominican Republic must fill out the free and mandatory electronic entry and exit form. It is a customs declaration form and a health affidavit for travelers.

It is important to fill it out a few days before your departure. You will receive your approved Dominican electronic ticket by email within approximately 1 to 2 business days after submission. If you do not complete this mandatory form, you will be denied entry to the Dominican Republic.

VISA

Canadian and American citizens do not need a visa for stays in the Dominican Republic of up to 30 days. For all other nationalities, we recommend checking the immigration website of the concerned country for entry requirements.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE DESTINATION

CLIMATE

In April , the average temperature in Punta Cana is 27°C (80°F) during the day and 24°C (75°F) in the evening.

The sun rises around 6:20 AM and sets around 6:48 PM.

The average water temperature is 26°C (79°F).

CURRENCY

In the Dominican Republic, the local currency is the Dominican Peso (DOP). Most international credit cards are accepted, but small local vendors and street sellers prefer cash payments.

We recommend informing your bank that you will be using your credit and/or debit card in the Dominican Republic before your trip.

LANGUAGE(S) SPOKEN

The official language of the Dominican Republic is Spanish, but English is also widely spoken.

ELECTRICITY

In the Dominican Republic, electrical outlets are of the US type (Type A and B) with a voltage of 110 volts.

PERSONAL EXPENSES

Personal expenses such as extra leisure activities, gift purchases, spa, laundry fees, etc., are at your own cost. A credit card will be required at hotel check-in to maintain an incidental account to cover your personal expenses.

It is not recommended to drink tap water. Always drink bottled water.
